Nationals and Worlds

by Jennie

After my best ever results at Nationals (top 10’s in all 4 races) (Whoo!) , I am headed over to U23 Worlds in Estonia. We have a pre-race camp the week before in Vierumaki Finland, of which we just checked into yesterday. Needless to say the 7hr fast forward from the East is taking me a moment to shake off. We all went for an easy ski today on the trails which start probably less than 100m from the glorious Scandic hotel we are residing. They are pretty flat, but soon I hear we are venturing to the world cup courses in Lahti, which is only a 20min drive away. On Sunday we drive/ferry to Estonia, which is where the races are held.

After Worlds, a group of us are headed to Latvia then another place in Estonia for a week of Scandinavian races. Check for some interesting facts – http://www.statisticalskier.com/2010/09/opa-cup-vs-scandinavian-cup-quality/

And lastly, for some entertainment since this post has been unlike my others and mostly factual, here’s something random from the grand internet. The title is not the case, however #5 just might be….

You know you’ve been in Finland too long when……..

1. You rummage through your plastic bag collection to see which ones you should keep to take to the store and which can be sacrificed to garbage.
2. It’s acceptable to eat lunch at 11.00.
3. Your front door step is beginning to resemble a shoe shop.
4. You think it’s normal that 22 year olds need fake ID
5. When a stranger on the street smiles at you, you assume that:
a. he is drunk
b. he is insane
c. he is American
d. he is all of the above

Pictures to come!
